Andy Roberts Signs Fire in Babylon

And in case you don’t know this incredible story of sport with a higher purpose and the greatest team we’ve seen in our life time here is the copy from the inside front jacket:

“Cricket had never been played like this. Cricket had never meant so much.

The West Indies had always had brilliant cricketers; it hadn’t always had brilliant cricket teams. But in 1974, a man called Clive Lloyd began to lead a side which would at last throw off the shackles that had hindered the region for centuries. Nowhere else had a game been so closely connected to a people’s past and their future hopes; nowhere else did cricket liberate a people like it did in the Caribbean.

For almost two decades, Clive Lloyd and then Vivian Richards led the batsmen and bowlers who changed the way cricket was played and changed the way a whole nation – which existed only on a cricket pitch saw itself.

With pace like fire and scorching batting, these sons of cane-cutters and fishermen brought pride to a people which had been stifled by 300 years of slavery, empire and colonialism. Their cricket roused the Caribbean and antagonised the game’s traditionalists.

Told by the men who made it happen and the people who watched it unfold, Fire in Babylon is the definitive story of the greatest team that sport has known.”

Get your copy quick with your donation here or email me – kat @ katbyles.com and I’ll reserve you a copy.

Thanks for the ongoing support.

Much love,

Kat x

What’s your deeper purpose?

What benefits have you experienced from building your business around your higher purpose?

Let me know so we can keep building a stronger case and inspire others to take the leap.

Here’s my observations with some sun squinting musings about the West Indies cricket team of the 70’s and 80’s and their higher purpose to demonstrate to the world that the black man was a free man. This created a fire, a passion, they were warriors, masters and inspired a nation, inspired the world as they dominated world cricket for 20 years. Much more than just showing up to win a cricket match or collect a pay check.

This energy generated from a higher purpose is hugely inspiring, it moves people into the vision you are here to stand for, to create – hugely beneficial if you are building a movement.

If you don’t have clarity or alignment with your deeper purpose yet, this is the first step we cover in the PR with Heart Online Course, which begins in January.  Alignment with your purpose, message, audience and PR activity you love = creative flow, energy and momentum pouring through your business.

Come and join us. Register now and be ready set to go in January.

Sea Turtle Rescue

During my recent trip to Antigua a friend saved the lives of 2 baby sea turtles. And I was reminded to be present to mine.

It was my last day and my head was busy with whether I’d made the most of the trip? Had I created my vision? Was it worth the time and money? What did I need to do today to make sure I get the most of it? Let’s make a plan!

My friend patiently reminded me (again) that this is not how it works in Antigua. Here, you go with what occurs, you relax and see what the day brings. “Oh yes,” I said. This is what I love so much about it. But my thoughts marched on. So when we swerved off the road and screeched to a halt I had no idea why. “What’s going on?”

“There are sea turtles over the road.” He shouted, clearly upset. And with that questioning tone – ‘you blind or what?!’

Well, yes. I was. I had completely missed a troupe of baby sea turtles crawling over the road, as had the cars before us. Ten or so babies had already been squashed into the tarmac.

When Sea Turtles hatch at night they move towards the brightest light. In wild nature this is the beautiful shimmer of light on the Ocean. Now streetlights lining roads are the brightest light so many head towards these instead, and to their death.

My friend found one alive in the middle of the road, picked it up and took him to the sea. I called him Miracle. On the way back to the car he found another in the grasses that had not yet reached the road and we took him to the sea too. I called him Lucky. “Have a good life little fella,” he said and launched him into the turquoise glassy sea. Off he went his head bopping up and down.

Sea Turtle Escape

There I was so busy with thoughts running around my head about making the most of the day that I was oblivious to the day right in front of me.  I know I’m not alone in this. How often do you completely miss the day, the magic and opportunities right under your nose because you are busy planning in your head, worrying, working it out? And worse, how often do we cause harm?

So with the sea turtles came the reminder (again).

Drop the thoughts.

Be present.

Be free.

Live.
